What better way to start one of your days in Athens than watching and photographing the sunrise as it unfolds over it? The light of the sun at this time against the sky can be truly amazing and reveal colours that you never knew could exist in nature.
Find yourself at this magical early hour of the day at the right spot and capture the astonishing views of this historical city spreading beneath you.

TOUR ITINERARY

Just before sunrise, we visit the perfect spot on top of a historical hill that provides us with breathtaking panoramic views including the Acropolis temple, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the New Acropolis Museum, the National Observatory, the Hill of Lycabettus, the city’s mountain line and sea, all lit by the beautiful Mediterranean sunrise light!

In this photo experience, I will guide you into specialized photo techniques and discuss composition, exposure methods, and blue and golden hours, so you will come up with outstanding magical photos of Athens.
Also, I will introduce you to my city from this high-up vantage point giving you historical facts, stories “behind the story” and info and suggestions to use at your own time!

You will be photographing using long exposures, so a tripod is kind of mandatory. We can provide a rental option.
Owning a remote shutter release will be a bonus but not a necessity!

Good to know:

We will meet and walk up a small hill while it is still dark so comfortable walking shoes are suggested. It is a 10-minute ascending walk from our meeting point to the top of the hill. It’s a slight elevation on a stone’s pathway and a few steps (landings). Our spot is a rocky small area with a few even surfaces to stand and set your tripod.

This is a great experience open to anyone wishing to admire and photograph an Athenian sunrise either being a serious photographer or just a point and shoot one.

Bring your DSLR camera, mirrorless, point-and-shoot little camera or even your mobile phone!
I will bring espresso, juice, cake and fruits!

 Verified A MUST do for any photography enthusiast - 5 STARS TOUR!!
My Athens Sunrise Photo Tour with Vasilis was awesome! He is incredibly friendly and a great conversationalist, and he has an in-depth knowledge of photography. Although I consider my photography skills to be advanced, I still learned a lot from Vasilis. He gave clear and precise instructions when needed and was able to answer all of my photography questions. I stayed in Athens for two days before my cruise. Since the photo tour began at 6:00 a.m., my hotel wasn’t able to provide a breakfast bag that early in the morning. I was wondering where I would be able to get breakfast before the tour, but I couldn’t find a place that was open. To my surprise, Vasilis brought coffee, orange juice, and some Greek cookies, and we enjoyed a little breakfast on the hill while waiting for the key moments during sunrise. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch! Since I was travelling from Canada, I didn’t bring my tripod with me, but Vasilis arranged for me to rent one for only €10. The activity lasted about two hours, and we spent the time on Philopappos Hill photographing the Acropolis and the city surrounding it. Be sure to bring sturdy, comfortable walking or hiking shoes, as getting to the photography spots involves climbing cobblestone pathways and stairs, as well as some steep inclines. After the photo tour, Vasilis also guided me and gave me tips for the walk I had planned through Anafiotika, which was a great way to continue exploring Athens. I would absolutely recommend Vasilis’ Athens Sunrise Photo Tour to any photography enthusiast. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced photographer, Vasilis is knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely passionate about photography.
